I have certainly owned one chin for 14 years - and he was adult (possibly between 1 and 4 years old when I got him).
Another chin of mine is at least 17 years old this year.
I have quite a few other chins over the age of 10.

My oldest chin (that I know of) is 12. Some of the rescues I have could be any age.

One of the members at KC had a chin died last year age 18 almost 19.
I also read about one of Arthur Sweeney's chins bought by Jenny Bowan of Birmingham. He was named Bouncer who got in the Guiness book of records. Bouncer was born July 1977 and was still alive at age 27. I never did do a follow up to find out more on this.
It's like a lot of things I set out to do. I get so far then get distracted.

Some interesting reading on Roger's site and always easy to read and understand. He also wrote a good book on chinchillas. I am sure the experienced breeders will have heard of Roger.

I mind that article mum.
My older ones i pass on to friends after i stop breeding with them.
My last one is still living and her name was spit and she will be 15.
My oldest one at moment is 9 years old and she is still happy and still breeding well for me.

My eldest 2 are a male & female who were sold to me as brothers about 4 years ago. I was told then they were about 2..so they are about 6 years old..they are def male/female but neither of them will breed, not with each other or other chins. Saying that BamBam & Dino will mix with any chin to make them welcome & they make great babysitters for tired mums! They even send them home with clean faces!

i am really proud of her shes slowed down a bit now but she still come running to the front of her cage at treat time
ive got about 50 chins all together most of them rescues .... ive got 2 breeding pairs ive also got a nice black velvet who was bred by aileen

My eldest is 3 years old and I've had him since he was 4 mths old-I hope that both my furry angels live to a ripe old age, like some of the others mentioned here!

I think the oldest chin I have is one i took from aileen you remember feebie aileen she is still going strong and she must be about 6 years or so and her moods have improved in the mornings lol

lisa i still mind of her and her mum is in retirement.
im glad she is better in mornings she always liked her naps in mornings and cuddles at dinner times.

my oldest here is Daisy a Brown Velvet, she is nearly 17 now, she came to me as part of hte Sue Daniels Chingus herd a few years ago
She keeps the other pet females in check

yes aileen - and they still looknig lovely except poor old Molly who i lost last year  she was the little matriach to the whole lot of them - she let me another brown velvet (Molly) and her son (Bart) and then kits of those too
Im hoping to do as well as well as she did with hers - but havent had much luck with the velvets to date - but im sure its about to all change
