Lisa the smaller cage you have the fem in the better that way she cant get away from the kits for them feeding.

I would keep helping mum with kits but dont over do it or her milk can stop.

Do you feed alfa?

Is the mum ok in herself health wise?

Hi there

Yeah I have them in a small cage and I have took everything out for the time being so their is nothing to disattract her ecpect her food bowl and water now I feed all the other night and put them back in on the morning and they have stayed under mum she looks fine i think all she interested in is getting out of the cage i cant feed her without her wanting to jump out of cage but the kits are mostly staying under her now and stopped losing the weight started to put 1 g on each so i will just keep an eye on their weight yes aileen i fed her alfalfa and i fed her some hay yesterday she ate both and she been eating her food and drinking water which I put abit of abidec in to help her i think all should be ok now i just wondered if you could suggest anything else I have not tried it's up to mum now but I think she missed them the night i had them so maybe thats whats he needed a night off lol

[edit by ~mum~Oooops mum forgetting to sign in lol rapped knuckles!!!]

Lisa have you tried Debbies mix with your chinchillas? They love it and it seems to be beneficial to lactating females.
If you look for her name here - Debbie is an admin here for us - and send her a pm she will get in touch with you. or see her website

Aileen's lot love their Debbie treat. Try it and see their eyes light up when you get it out.
Might just help your chinnie mum with feeding too.

Hi there

Yes I have that stuff already sorry I just noticed you posted here

they are doing better after they had a night in my bedroom mum is settleing into motherhood now I think first time mums just get a shock when they have kits for the first time takes them awhile to get ued to it as they now sit under her no problem had to take apart everything in the cage mind you as she just would not sit with them if they was something else she could get into so thats all solved now thanks god I still once or twice a week go in and give the kits a boost up so i make sure they are doing ok

I add pure cranberry juice to the water of all mums to be just before the birth and give it for 2 weeks after too.It is a natural probiotic and helps rid the body of any toxins and it can also help the milk supply.

Pleased to hear the babies are doing well now, hope they continue to thrive :)
